Newcastle United Sporting Director Dan Ashworth is desperate to reunite with Brighton winger Leandro Trossard at St James’ Park.
That’s according to TEAMtalk, who claim the Magpies have demonstrated the strongest interest in signing the Belgian.
Alongside the Tyneside club, former Seagulls manager Graham Potter is hoping to lure the 28-year-old to Chelsea, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

As a result, Brighton will exercise a clause in Trossard’s contract which will extend it by a further 12 months. Consequently, this will stop him talking to other clubs in January, ahead of a free transfer in the summer.
Despite this, the south-coast club are still bracing themselves as they prepare to receive offers from the Toon.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is a huge admirer of the Belgium international, and it is known that he is looking for another winger to bring in.
The former Bournemouth boss also likes Jack Harrison of Leeds, but a move for Trossard would be the priority.
Ashworth wants Trossard at Newcastle
The attacker was actually the first signing made by Ashworth whilst he was with the Seagulls, so a reunion on Tyneside makes perfect sense.
The Brighton star has certainly impressed at club-level this season. In 14 Premier League games, he has managed to bag seven goals and three assists, having also statistically ranked as the south-coast side’s joint-best player this term.
After such an impressive start to the campaign, former Magpie Jose Enrique has claimed the 28-year-old would be an ‘incredible’ signing for Newcastle, as he’s an ‘amazing’ player.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, it would take a £25m offer for the south-coast club to sanction a move for Trossard.
With Howe having bid £50m for Leicester City’s James Maddison, a £25m move for the Seagulls attacker would be more than reasonable.
Therefore, hopefully we see Ashworth reunite with Trossard at Newcastle in the new year.
