Newcastle United may have to fork out as much as £26 million in order to sign Nuno Tavares from Benfica – but it seems the Portuguese giants might be preparing for life after the talent.
O Jogo have reported that that’s the new valuation of the talented left-back, who is also on the radars of Burnley and Napoli.
Tavares is mentioned as a possible outgoing for Benfica this summer, with O Jogo stating that both he and Alex Grimaldo have been the subject of transfer interest.
Apparently the Eagles are looking at a possible swoop for Ruben Vinagre of Wolverhampton Wanderers, suggesting they are preparing for an outgoing.
It’s explained that manager Jorge Jesus has endorsed a move for the 21-year-old, who has been on loan at Farmalicao for the second half of the season.
Vinagre has become a regular for the Primeira Liga outfit and has seemingly caught the attention of Benfica bosses – he actually played against them back in February.
Newcastle’s interest in Tavares was reported by the same publication last month.
Tavares to Newcastle still seems unlikely
Tavares is a player with very exciting potential, but also seems like a bit a pipe dream for Newcastle.
Newcastle need to ensure their Premier League safety to stand any chance, but even then a move – possibly worth around £26 million – seems unlikely.
Benfica may well be preparing for life after Tavares given the supposed interest in Vinagre, but it would certainly be shock if his next destination was St. James’ Park.
