Arsenal are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Leandro Trossard after the winger was linked with joining Newcastle United.
That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has stated that the Gunners have already agreed personal terms to sign the 28-year-old from Brighton. He states that Mikel Arteta’s side are now in talks with Brighton and are preparing an official bid.
Romano has tweeted: “Arsenal have opened talks to sign Leandro Trossard from Brighton, negotiations are advanced with official bid ready for permanent move. Personal terms already agreed — talks will continue to get deal done soon.”
News of Arsenal’s interest in Trossard comes after they missed out on Mykhailo Mudryk, who signed for Chelsea instead for £88.5million.
That has forced the Premier League leaders to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements, and were even linked with long-term Newcastle target Moussa Diaby.
But now Arsenal are making their move for Trossard, who has been a star in the Premier League this season at the Amex Stadium, and a player who Dan Ashworth was looking to bring to St James’ Park.
Arsenal move for Leandro Trossard after Newcastle say no
Heading into the January window, Newcastle were heavily linked with Trossard. He was seen as someone who could add more depth to Eddie Howe’s forward line, while he is a player who Ashworth knows well from his time on the south coast.

But a move for the Belgian has not been forthcoming. Reporter Ben Jacobs recently claimed that Trossard’s agent had offered his client’s services to the Magpies, but Newcastle said no. They would rather look to sign a younger forward.
Newcastle’s decision to turn down Trossard looked justified when it emerged he was having problems behind the scenes at Brighton. It was reported that manager Roberto De Zerbi had concerns over his attitude, with Trossard training away from the first-team and being dropped from the Premier League squad. A move away became inevitable.
The noise surrounding Trossard suggested he would not be a good character to add to Howe’s squad – and we know that character is such an important part of the club’s recruitment right now.
However, Arsenal seemingly do not have the same concerns. Romano states that they have already agreed a deal with Trossard, and are looking to complete a deal ‘soon’.
There is no doubt that he is a talented player, and he will certainly boost Arsenal’s bid to win a first Premier League title since 2004.
But having already said no, Newcastle will soon find out if they were right to turn down Trossard.
