Newcastle United reportedly have two clubs fighting over goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
The star is currently gearing up for one final game on loan at Swansea City – and it’s the most important of the whole season.
Woodman will play in the Championship play-off final against Brentford on Saturday, with the Swans looking to seal a return back to the Premier League after getting relegated in 2018.
It’ll be another chance for Woodman to raise his stock, having enjoyed a magnificent campaign so far.
The 24-year-old recently won the Golden Glove award for the 2020/21 season, and has seriously impressed during his time at the Liberty Stadium.
There’s been a lot of talk about his future, and it seems Newcastle will have some decisions to make this summer.
According to the Chronicle, both Arsenal and Southampton are interested in signing him.
The Gunners’ interest has been reported before, but this is the first mention for the Saints.
Both Southampton’s current goalkeepers – Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster – have one year remaining on their contracts and are over the age of 30.
A chance for Newcastle to raise funds?
Presuming Karl Darlow would be content as Martin Dubraka’s back-up, Newcastle should probably consider selling Woodman.
He could fetch a pretty good fee given the fact he signed a new deal last year and is English.
Plus it’s likely Swansea will want to sign him permanently given his great spell there.
So with three teams potentially in the hunt, Newcastle could make some good money to put towards buying other players.
It’s stated in the report that Woodman won’t settle for being a number two or three at St. James’ Park, so an exit could well happen.
