According to Sport, Barcelona are ready to let Emerson leave the Camp Nou due to the arrival of Sergino Dest from Ajax, with AC Milan sniffing around the Brazilian’s situation in Catalonia.

Incidentally, the 21-year-old full-back was linked with Newcastle, Everton and Tottenham in a report from Mundo Deportivo – should any of those Premier League outfits be seriously interested, then Sport’s update should come as welcome news.

Barcelona only signed the youngster from Atletico Mineiro in January 2019 for €12 million (£10.8 million), and he is yet to make an appearance for them having spent time with Real Betis since moving to La Liga, where he’s made 46 outings.

If Steve Bruce is serious about the São Paulo-born defender, then the news that he’s allowed to leave will be music to the ex-Sunderland boss’ ears.

After all, Emerson seems to be a real prospect.

Comparisons to Brazilian legend Dani Alves were made in Barcelona’s official announcement of the player’s arrival, and Emerson himself has even discussed the similarities between him and his fellow countryman.

UOL (via Tribuna) quote him as saying: ‘Barca is one of the best teams in the world and he [Dani Alves] has always been an example for me. I have [learned] some things from Daniel Alves and others from Cafu. Cafu is an idol for me and I look up at Daniel a lot too.’

The transfer window may not be open until January. However, if Newcastle are genuinely interested in the Barcelona prospect, then it seems like they’ll need to get active with AC Milan lurking.
