Real Madrid superstar does not want to sign for Newcastle this summer

Newcastle United are looking to revamp their midfield ahead of next season, with Eddie Howe seemingly keen to bring the best around to St James’ Park.

The Toon boss wants someone who can play in the number six role, freeing up Bruno Guimaraes to operate higher up the pitch.

Plenty of names have been linked, with Declan Rice a rumoured target. Newcastle reportedly want to hold talks with the 24-year-old, although it is hard to envision a deal getting done to bring him in from West Ham.

Another major name rumoured to be on Newcastle’s radar is Nicolo Barella, who Howe is really keen to work with at St James’ Park.

The Italy international is the most exciting player that we are linked with right now, although it remains unclear whether or not he fancies a move to Tyneside.

However, one midfielder who is not interested in signing for Newcastle is Aurelien Tchouameni.

Following reports of interest in Barella, a story in Spain suggested that Real Madrid superstar Tchouameni was also a target for Eddie Howe’s side.

But while there is hope that Barella could be wearing black and white next season, do not expect to see Tchouameni at St James’ Park – unless it is in a Real Madrid shirt in the Champions League.

That is because the Chronicle state that sources close to the 23-year-old have told them that his intention is to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

That is no surprise – I mean why would he want to leave Los Blancos after just a year at the Spanish giants? The Frenchman made 50 appearances in his debut year, and is only going to become more influential when Toni Kroos and Luka Modric hang up their boots, whenever that might be.

The £119,000-a-week midfielder would be a sensational arrival at St James’ Park, there is no denying that. But talk of him moving to St James’ Park seemed farfetched, and his stance over his Real Madrid future confirms that he is going nowhere.

Major names being linked with Newcastle is the norm now, and most of the stories are nonsensical. That appears to be the case here, but hopefully not when it comes to Nicolo Barella.
