PSG have now made their first move to sign ‘exceptional’ attacker that Newcastle United want

Newcastle United suddenly face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for one of their attacking targets.

The Magpies are aiming to sign a right winger this summer, and can now shift their attention towards incomings after a stressful end to June. The sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson look to have ensured that the club has complied with profit and sustainability, with Newcastle bringing in £68million in total.

While there will be more departures, Newcastle have completed their vital sales. That means they can now relax a little bit before strengthening a squad that will want to challenge for a place in the Champions League next season.

The most important signing that Newcastle will make this summer will be a right winger. Eddie Howe needs an attacker who can help take his team to the next level, and some exciting options have been linked. Sadly, Michael Olise is going elsewhere, and a deal for Nico Williams feels incredibly unlikely.

PSG to challenge Newcastle for Crysencio Summerville

Another player who Newcastle United are targeting is Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville.

The ‘exceptional‘ Dutchman is on the Magpies’ radar after a sensational season in the Championship, and would certainly compliment Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak in attack at St James’ Park.

However, Newcastle are not the only club that are interested in Summerville.

According to Dutch website De Telegraaf, Paris Saint-Germain have got their eye on Summerville.

They report that PSG have initiated contact with Leeds about a deal, as they aim to make their move for the player who won the Championship Player of the Season award.

That is a problem for Newcastle, as PSG aim to bolster an attack that will not have Kylian Mbappe next season. He has left the Ligue 1 giants to sign for Real Madrid following the expiration of his contract.

While Summerville is not on Mbappe’s level, it is a testament to his ability that PSG would consider him as a signing following the Frenchman’s departure.

Leeds United have just received major financial boost

With PSG now in the mix, Newcastle could suddenly be up against it in the race to sign Summerville from Leeds.

On top of that, there may be less pressure on Leeds to sell. They have needed to raise cash this summer following failure to secure promotion, and have done just that this week.

Leeds have sold Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur, with the 18-year-old costing around £30million. Whether or not that influences their ability to retain Summerville remains to be seen, but he is now a player who is attracting interest from PSG – as well as Newcastle.
