Newcastle United have been handed a summer boost as one of their potential targets and Premier League defender is understood to be open to moving to the club.
Newcastle have been monitoring the situation of Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly whose contract is expiring this summer and could be a bargain option for the Magpies.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Ben Jacobs has shared that Kelly himself would be ‘open to moving’ to Newcastle should they come in with a contract offer in the summer.
Newcastle handed boost in search of defender
Eddie Howe is very keen on adding to his defensive ranks for next season and would ideally be looking to bring in Premier League proven talent who can slot in straight away.
That’s exactly what Kelly would bring to the team who has made 45 appearances in the division having joined the Cherries back in 2019 at the beginning of the season in which they suffered relagtion.
Kelly would add depth not only for the centre-backs, of which Newcastle have just four who would be considered first-team quality, but also can play at left-back as well.
Being a free agent is also hugely beneficial to Newcastle who are having to stick to the very strict financial restrictions which massively hindered them in January when they couldn’t afford to make even one first-team signing despite all of the injuries.

Newcastle need as much money as possible this summer
Howe has really struggled in terms of a lack of depth this season with both injuries and Champions League fixtures massively impacting how successful they’ve been.
Their form really took a hit in December and January when injuries were at their worst and Howe was pretty much having to play the same starting 11 in every game which caused a lot of fatigue in the squad.
The head coach will be hoping to add some top quality reinforcements in the summer to avoid this situation from happening again and giving them a boost to get back amongst Europe’s elite.
Kelly’s lack of a transfer fee would be absolutely ideal for the Magpies and save them having to find a backup for the likes of Sven Botman and Fabian Schar, allowing them to put more money into other areas like right-wing which is more of a priority.
