Despite having the richest owners in the world, Newcastle United are unable to splash the cash.

Financial fair play is proving to be a real issue for Newcastle United, during a January transfer window in which they would love to improve Eddie Howe’s squad with some new signings.

That is going to be easier said than done, with the Magpies potentially having to lean on the loan market with Kalvin Phillips heavily linked.

The transfer windows have been frustrating for Toon fans, who have not witnessed the club spend as much money as anticipated. They even had to sell to buy in the summer, with Allan Saint-Maximin leaving the club before Tino Livramento could arrive.

It has been suggested that Newcastle might have to do the same in the summer of 2024, with a report claiming that a major name like Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman or Alexander Isak could leave the club.

This has also now been reported by TalkSPORT, who suggest that all of Newcastle’s biggest assets would attract interest from other clubs within the Premier League.

Report suggests Newcastle could cash in on someone like Alexander Isak

According to TalkSPORT, the likes of Isak, Bruno and Botman would have suitors in the Premier League if they decided to cash in this summer.

The idea would be to sell one of them for major money, which would then allow the club to go again in the transfer market and invest in multiple fresh faces to improve the squad. In essence, it would be taking a step back in the hope of taking multiple forward.

However, that is not what fans will want. Personally, I would not be comfortable if any of them left St James’ Park at the end of the season. They are the spine of this Newcastle United project, and have been key to the success we have already enjoyed.

Surely when the Toon owners spent £63million on Isak, it was not with the view to selling him after two years. It would be crazy to get rid of the 24-year-old, who was recently described as ‘frightening’ by Kieran Trippier.

The same goes for Bruno and Botman, who simply have to remain at St James’ Park. Selling them would be a disaster.

Hopefully that does not happen and they continue to shine in black and white. In truth, stories like this feel like scaremongering at a time when Newcastle are under pressure from the wider footballing world after a difficult period on the pitch.
