Newcastle United may have just received a boost towards their hopes of signing Lloyd Kelly this summer.
The Bournemouth defender is reportedly on the Magpies’ radar, as Eddie Howe looks to be reunited with the 25-year-old.
He was the man who brought him to Bournemouth, and now Howe would like to work with Lloyd Kelly again.
It comes at a time when his future is massively up in the air. Kelly‘s current Cherries contract expires this summer, leading to speculation that he could be available on a free transfer.
Bournemouth are aiming to ensure that doesn’t happen, but appear to be struggling. That means there could be an opportunity for Newcastle, although they would face competition for his signature.
Bournemouth not confident despite offering Lloyd Kelly a new contract
According to TEAMtalk, Bournemouth have offered Kelly a new contract to continue his career at the Vitality Stadium.
However, the report adds that Bournemouth are not confident about him signing it, meaning there is still a very real chance that he could depart the club this summer on a free.
Newcastle are named as one of three Premier League clubs who could sign Kelly. The other two are Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.
The report states that the Magpies have been impressed with Kelly’s recent form, and he certainly impressed at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Kelly played well against Newcastle on Saturday
Kelly played the full 90 minutes as Bournemouth were held to a 2-2 draw by Newcastle. But Andoni Iraola’s side played very well, and will feel as though they should have returned south with all three points.
They were extremely unlucky, while Kelly can be happy with his performance. He operated at left-back, showcasing the type of versatility that could make him a very appealing option for Howe this summer.
