Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been linked many times with Newcastle United this summer but it now looks like his future lies elsewhere.
England defender Harry Maguire has fallen out of favour at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag to the point where he’s had the club captaincy stripped from him.
Despite not featuring much for Manchester United, the 30-year-old still found himself in Gareth Southgate‘s England squad, and to be fair to the former Leicester City man, when wearing the Three Lions of England he always manages to raise his game, but for some reason he never hit the heights at Manchester United after his £80million move.
Newcastle had been consistently linked with Harry Maguire
Newcastle were said to be one of a few clubs keen no rescuing Maguire from his Manchester United hell. It was a transfer story that divided Newcastle fans with some thinking the move could revive his career and others believing that his best days were far behind him and he wouldn’t improve Newcastle at all.
Now it looks like it doesn’t matter any more as Fabrizio Romano has shared on Twitter/X that West Ham and Manchester United have an agreement in principal for defender in a deal with around £30million.
I imagine that whatever side of the Maguire fence you were on, you’d agree that for £30million Newcastle could find someone more suitable, someone younger, faster and with potential to improve.
Scott McTominay is reportedly wanted by Newcastle and West Ham too
West Ham are also said to be hovering around Manchester United for Scott McTominay, another Red Devil with persistent links with a move to Newcastle.
In all honesty I wish West Ham the best of luck in that pursuit too as I don’t see, especially after our summer recruitment, how Scott McTominay improves our squad.
Now that Maguire looks set for West Ham, hopefully the picture will become clearer as to who Eddie Howe actually is looking at to fill that defensive void.
