Journalist Simon Phillips has admitted Chelsea are worried about losing Newcastle target Christian Pulisic, with the attacker reluctant to sign a new deal.
Speaking with GiveMeSport, the Blues reporter revealed that Graham Potter’s side want to hold talks with the United States international over a contract extension.
“They want to hold talks with him and see if he’s open to staying beyond [2024],” Phillips said.
“At the moment, they’re not getting a feeling that he’s going to do that, so I think in the summer is when we’ll really be having a conversation about Pulisic’s future.”
According to transfer journalist Dean Jones, the Magpies would make a move for the 24-year-old if he decides to leave Stamford Bridge.
This is supported by a report from Mail Online, which claims the Toon join Manchester United and Arsenal in monitoring any developments surrounding Pulisic ahead of the January window.

Although the American has started just three Premier League games all season, he was in great form for the US national team out in Qatar.
Pulisic scored and assisted for Gregg Berhalter’s side against Iran, Wales and the Netherlands, whilst he also came away with the player of the match award against England.
As a result, he was hailed by US teammate and Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams as an ‘unbelievable player’.
Having fallen out of favour at Chelsea, the winger would be a brilliant signing for Eddie Howe’s side. His versatile skillset would be greatly appreciated at St James’ Park, as he could slot in at any position needed to be filled.
With his contract set to expire in 2024, the Blues could be forced to cash-in on the player at a reduced price, instead of losing him on a free shortly down the line.
Therefore, there may be a bargain to be had here, with lots of life left in the 24-year-old.
