It’s been a tough past few weeks for Eddie Howe’s side.

Newcastle have lost their last three games in a row, with both Chelsea and Everton hitting late winners.

Those two results were then followed up by a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur. It’s clear Newcastle are badly in need of a home game right now.

But a very tough game lies in wait, with Wolves pushing to secure European football come the end of the season.

Bruno Lage has done a sterling job at Molineux, and Wanderers will be feeling confident after beating Aston Villa last weekend.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has made his predictions for this weekend’s Premier League fixtures, and has called this one as a 2-1 away win for Wolves.

He said (Sportskeeda): “This is a big game as Wolves are right back in the top-four race after Arsenal’s unexpected loss to Crystal Palace. For Newcastle United, it turned out to be a bit of a wake-up call for them against Tottenham. They got absolutely blown away.

“Eddie Howe and co will comfortably maintain their Premier League status. But they still have a long way to go to make themselves a force to be reckoned with. I fancy Wolves to win this one and make the race for a top-four spot more interesting.”

Newcastle face tough challenge against Wolves, and crowd will be a big factor

Newcastle can’t really afford to lose this game. Defeat here could really cause panic stations.

Wolves have been in really good form in 2022 and so it will be a difficult game.

But the Magpies will be buoyed being back at St. James’ Park, which is going to be absolutely rocking.

The Geordie faithful know the team need that 12th man right now. And the fans can absolutely play a part in helping Newcastle get out of this mini-rut.
