'Offered': Newcastle now given chance to sign 'world-class' player for cheap – journalist

Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram for a cheap price, according to Dean Jones.

Speaking with GiveMeSport, the journalist revealed the Magpies have been given the opportunity to land the France international in January.

“Thuram has been offered to Newcastle for the next window,” he said.

“He’s somebody that they are willing to consider.

“They see that he holds good value at the price that’s been put to them.”

Out of contract at the end of the season, journalist Fabrizio Romano believes there is a strong chance the player could leave the Bundesliga club on a free in the summer.

Therefore, it now appears Gladbach are willing to sell Thuram in January, so they don’t lose him without compensation six months later.

According to 90min, a whole host of suitors are interested in his services. Alongside the Toon, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham are listed as the Premier League sides keen on a deal. Elsewhere, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are also said to be interested.

Newcastle offered chance to sign Thuram

If Eddie Howe is still intent on bringing another forward to St James’ Park, Thuram could be the perfect player to sign.

In 15 Bundesliga matches this season, the Frenchman has bagged ten goals and three assists.

This has brought his impressive tally at Gladbach to 41 goals and 26 assists in 119 games.

As a result, he has earned five caps for the France national team. He even came off the bench in Didier Deschamps’ opening World Cup game against Australia last night.

Known for his rapid pace and strong physicality in possession, Thuram would add another proficient dribbler of the ball to the Magpies front-line.

Having experienced various injury issues with Callum Wilson and club-record signing Alexander Isak, the 25-year-old could be a useful player for Howe to have at his disposal.

As he’s available on a free at the end of the season, a cut-price deal would certainly be on the table in January.

If the Toon are willing to submit a cash offer to Gladbach, the German outfit would likely accept. This figure could even be less than £10m – a rarity for a player who has been deemed ‘world-class’ by Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer.

Therefore, Newcastle should jump at the chance of landing Thuram at St James’ Park in January.
