Newcastle United are reportedly looking to sign Harvey Barnes this summer – a player who has previously taken advice from Toon legend Alan Shearer.
Barnes is once again on Newcastle‘s radar after he was linked at the beginning of the season. The Toon decision makers are keen on the Leicester winger for the second year in a row, and are looking to bring him to St James’ Park.
That is according to 90min, who claim that Newcastle are planning to make a move for the 25-year-old. They add that he is ready to leave the Foxes this summer. That will certainly be the case if they are relegated to the Championship.
Dropping down to the second tier could leave the door wide open for Eddie Howe to sign Barnes, who would add even more quality to Newcastle’s attack.
Barnes is an excellent forward, constantly providing goals and assists ever since his emergence in the Premier League. He can be lethal in front of goal at times, and that is partially down to the influence of Mr Alan Shearer.

Alan Shearer helped Harvey Barnes with his finishing
Barnes played for Leicester against Tottenham back in 2019, and missed some glorious chances in a 3-1 defeat for the Foxes. His performance prompted some analysis from Shearer on Match Of The Day, who highlighted how Barnes could improve in front of goal.
The winger later admitted that he took the advice on board.
“I don’t think you can ignore that when the person it’s coming from has that ability,” he said in 2019.
“There are all sorts of advice and finishing tips coming from everywhere. You learn from Vards on the training pitch, the manager has always got things to add. It’s always about learning.”
Barnes has really kicked on since those words of advice from Shearer. He is currently enjoying his best ever Premier League campaign, hitting double figures with 10 goals.
The England international has been one of Leicester’s best players in a tough season, and would be a welcome addition at St James’ Park.
He is a winger who would add real quality to Howe’s squad, and it is exciting to see him linked with a move up north once again.
If he does join Newcastle, there will likely be even more words of advice from Shearer, who will be desperate to see Barnes thrive in a black and white shirt.
