Nolberto Solano featured prominently in the media ahead of Newcastle United’s clash with Leicester last night and he had his say on who Newcastle should sign in the summer.

The season is almost over and Newcastle have secured Champions League football which means that the transfer rumours will soon kick into overdrive.

Newcastle have been linked with some crazy names already, but now that we’ve guaranteed our place in Europe’s top competition, those rumours will just get more intense.

Solano says Newcastle should sign Declan Rice this summer

Former Newcastle midfielder Nolberto Solano has given us his take on who Eddie Howe should sign in the summer and he went straight for a ‘world-class‘ name.

Speaking to TalkSPORT before the game, the Magpies legend was asked who Newcastle should sign in the summer and he said: “You see in the Premier League some wonderful players, I have always been a big fan of [Declan] Rice from West Ham he’s a wonderful player, he will suit it well here.”

No messing about from Solano there, spending £120million of the PIF‘s money on one signing. You love to see it.

Solano is right, Rice would of course be a magnificent signing for Newcastle, and West Ham have admitted that they’d be open to selling him to a Champions League side … that’s us! We are a Champions League side.

Arsenal are in the driving seat in the race for Declan Rice

Arsenal are hot favourites to sign Rice this summer, but Newcastle have been credit with an interest in the 24-year-old England man.

It’s always a tough ask to get a player who has spent their entire life in London to move up north, especially when there’s another offer to remain in London on the table, but the tide is turning and big players are starting to look at us again, so let’s not write this one off just yet.

West Ham say it’ll take £120million to take Rice away from the London Stadium or £100million plus a midfielder to replace him. Newcastle could definitely look at the latter option and maybe add Allan Saint-Maximin to sweeten the deal, although I’d expect they’d want to take another £10million or so off the asking price as ASM is worth more than £20million.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also monitoring Rice’s situation, however Chelsea will not be able to offer Champions League football. It’s going to be an interesting tussle for Rice this summer and Newcastle may play a big part in it.
