Reports from the German media suggest that Nick Woltemade could leave Newcastle United this summer.

Few signings in the club’s modern history have proven quite as divisive for Newcastle as Woltemade

Indeed, some back the German to come good, while others believe he just simply isn’t suited to life in the Premier League.

While Woltemade has attracted unfair criticism at times, to say he has fully convinced in a Newcastle United shirt would be unwise.

Sadly, it seems as if his time on Tyneside could be coming to an end.

Reports suggest Woltemade could leave Newcastle United this summer

German football expert Christian Falk has provided an update after Woltemade was thought to have removed reference from Newcastle United from his Instagram bio.

Writing on CF Bayern, he said: “Normally, Nick Woltemade wouldn’t want to leave Newcastle in the summer. However, we’ve all seen his socials (and, more specifically, what’s no longer on his socials).

If you had to choose – who would you rather STAYS at Newcastle United next season?

Both have been tipped to leave…

“There is some background to this. There was an article from an English newspaper, and I think Woltemade is aware that the reporter in question is very close to Eddie Howe.

“It could be that perhaps the German feels the sentiment within the report is shared by his manager. I can say that, perhaps, this is true.

“This is why they could come to a new conclusion about what the next season holds for all parties involved.”

It would be hard to blame Woltemade for wanting to leave. This has largely been a miserable season on Tyneside, and his mere presence in the team is starting something of a culture war online.

Again, that is not to say he is the perfect player. Clearly, some of his performances have been a disappointment, and the way in which he is knocked off the ball is hugely frustrating.

Woltemade has been linked with a return to Germany, with Bayern Munich trying to sign him from Stuttgart before he joined Newcastle.

It remains to be seen if Bayern revisit their interest, but it is perhaps significant that they have confirmed that Nicolas Jackson – once linked with Newcastle – will be returning to parent club Chelsea at the end of his loan spell.

Letting Woltemade leave so quickly would be a shame. Still, such has been the difficulty of the season, it would hardly be the biggest shock at this point.

Major changes are expected in the Newcastle United team this summer. Woltemade, it seems, could be one.

Newcastle’s quest to replace Alexander Isak could take yet another fresh twist in a few months’ time.
