Newcastle have made a late move to sign Lille’s midfielder Thiago Maia, according to French outlet Le10Sport, with Serie A side Genoa having already submitted a bid for the player.
The report claims that Newcastle’s personal terms are better than those from Genoa, and the player is, as yet, undecided on where his future lies.

If the reports of a move are genuine, it leaves questions over at least one of their current crop of midfielders, with it likely to see someone move away.
Of course, Isaac Hayden has long-hoped for a move south to be closer to his family, and despite comments made recently suggesting he may be open to staying at St James’ Park, it is still possible he could be the one to go.

Matty Longstaff has burst onto the scene with a bang this pre-season, and it may be that he will be kept in and around the first team squad for the season ahead, and with the potential signing of Maia, it could free up a move for Hayden.
Will a midfield arrival see one of the current players leave?
As big a loss as Hayden will be – considering his form in the second half of last season – fans will be hoping it is not a Manchester United move for Sean Longstaff that is being considered.

The rumours around Solskjaer’s pursuit of Longstaff have lingered all summer, and despite Mike Ashley’s public proclamation that he will not be sold, until the transfer window closes, fans will be uneasy about it.
Time will tell if Newcastle’s reported interest in Maia is genuine, but if it is, he will be a fantastic addition, but most supporters will be more concerned with who may leave, should the Brazilian arrive.
