Following the announcement that Elias Sorensen will spend the season on loan at Carlisle United, Newcastle have sent another one of the youngsters to League Two.

The club have confirmed that Kelland Watts has joined Stevenage on a season long loan.

Friday was a busy day for loan manager Shola Ameobi, who sent two of the Toon’s bright youngsters down the leagues to the fourth tier of English football.

This will be Watts’ first loan spell away from Newcastle, and will hopefully act as a real learning curve for the defender.

We briefly saw him in pre-season at the Asia Trophy, and he almost made his Premier League debut last season. Watts was an unused substitute on the final day of the season as Newcastle pumped Fulham 4-0 at Craven Cottage.

But instead of the possible glamour of the Premier League, it’s League Two football for Watts.

The 19-year-old has been handed a great opportunity to get some first-team experience, and the style of football in League Two should help him transition from youth to senior football.

Stevenage supporters have reacted to the news on Twitter, and are hopeful that Watts can have a big impact at Broadhall Way.
