Talk of Joachim Andersen leaving Crystal Palace for Newcastle United has gone very quiet, despite the Magpies’ focus on defensive additions.
After deals for Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes, Eddie Howe is now looking to enhance his defence ahead of the new season. He wants to sign Tino Livramento from Southampton, while the club are also looking to bring in another centre-back.
The need for the latter has intensified as of late, with Fabian Schar picking up an injury during Newcastle’s pre-season trip to America.
Andersen is one player who has been on the Magpies’ radar this summer, with Toon officials launching an enquiry for the Denmark international.
However, speculation over the 27-year-old moving to St James’ Park has died down since it was claimed that Crystal Palace want a deal worth £40million. That would mean the Eagles more than double their money, having spent £17million on Andersen in 2021.

The asking price looked like it had ended Newcastle’s interest, but a new claim from the Guardian’s Ed Aarons suggests that he could still end up on Tyneside.
Newcastle still interested in Joachim Andersen
Aarons has wrote on Twitter that Palace are still yet to receive any official offers for Anderson, despite the player being a target for both Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Guardian journalist adds that this deal ‘could be one that goes to the wire’.
That is encouraging, as it suggests that Newcastle United have not given up hope of signing Andersen before the transfer window closes. In fact, Aarons has hinted that any move, whether it is to Newcastle or Spurs or elsewhere, could happen towards the end of August.

Hopefully we can do a deal, as Andersen looks tailormade for this Newcastle team. He has been described as a ‘leader‘, while he has a similar style to Schar. They are both excellent passers of the ball, as well as being fantastic readers of the game.
Andersen is one of few centre-backs who appear to be on Newcastle’s radar at the minute, but he would certainly be a good signing. As it stands, the Magpies, or anyone for that matter, are yet to make an official offer.
