Newcastle United have a very good and capable squad, but it seems that manager Eddie Howe has identified a department to strengthen in the January transfer window.

Howe is seemingly looking to reinforce the wide area for Newcastle. Anthony Elanga was linked with the Magpies last summer, and they could rekindle their interest in the Nottingham Forest winger in the January transfer window.

Rayan Cherki is another wide player Newcastle are keen on, although it must be noted that the Lyon star operates predominantly as a central attacking midfielder. Leroy Sane is also on the Magpies’ radar.

Newcastle United want to sign Johan Bakayoko

And now Johan Bakayoko is being linked with Newcastle. TBR has reported that the PSV winger is one of the options that the Magpies are considering signing in the January transfer window.

Bakayoko has been on the books of PSV since 2019 and has established himself as one of the first names on the Dutch team’s teamsheet.

The Belgium international winger has scored five goals and given three assists in 17 matches in all competitions so far this season.

The 21-year-old found the back of the net 14 times and gave 14 assists in 48 competitive appearances last season.

Johan Bakayoko has been compared to Bukayo Saka

Bakayoko is only 21 now and is playing in the Eredivisie in the Netherlands, so some will have some reservations about him and his quality.

However, there is no doubt that Bakayoko is a very good and promising young player who has a bright future ahead of him.

The winger has been compared to Arsenal and England winger Bukayo Saka by former Gunners player Adrian Clarke.

Clake said on The Handbrake off podcast in 2023 ahead of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League game against PSV: “There’s a player on the right wing, their most exciting player and most dangerous player is the right winger. A kid called Johan Bakayoko.

“He’s only 20, he’s quick, he’s like Saka, he’s their version of Saka. He plays off the right and is left-footed.”
