The January transfer window is open for business and Newcastle United have already been linked with several moves.
While this year’s January transfer window might not reach the levels of 2022 for Newcastle United, there may well be a signing or two.
For the first time in three years, Newcastle have money to spend in January.
That should offer a boost to Eddie Howe, who hasn’t been afforded a mid-season signing in three years now.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United transfer news and rumours.
Barcelona hope to sign Nathan Ake
Nathan Ake is an interesting name to have emerged as a potential Toon target this month.
Ake has been linked with Newcastle and the Dutchman, at least on paper, looks like a logical addition.
Able to operate as both a centre-back and a left-back and hugely experienced in the Premier League, the 30-year-old could feasibly hit the ground running at a club like Newcastle.
You can sign ONE defender in January, who are you taking? ✍️
Still, he’s presumably on high wages at Manchester City, and that’s without even mentioning the rival interest that may emerge.
In fact, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are interested in signing Ake and will make a decision after the Spanish Super Cup is played in early January.
For his part, Ake is said to be open to joining the Catalan giants on loan.
Dayann Methalie update after injury
Teenage Toulouse defender Dayann Methalie has also been linked with Newcastle.
Like Ake, the 19-year-old is versatile, and can play in central defence, at left back or even as a wing back.
Newcastle are interested in Methalie, so much so that they could still make a move despite his recent surgery.
How much money would a club need to bid for you to consider selling Joe Willock in January?
The Frenchman underwent a small procedure on his knee and is now expected to miss “several weeks” of action.
However, according to Craig Hope of The Daily Mail on YouTube, an approach from Newcastle is still expected.
“Methalie had knee surgery,” he said.
“Now, we don’t believe it to be too serious. A minor surgery to cure chronic pain. He’s expected to return this month and I would, on this one, expect Newcastle to make for an approach.
“But, for now, they are monitoring the situation.”
Cadiz want to keep Antonio Cordero
Antonio Cordero became the first Newcastle exit in January.
On New Year’s Eve, the teenage winger ended his loan stint at Westerlo to join Spanish second tier side Cadiz on loan for the rest of the season.
Newcastle believe Cordero can thrive at Cadiz, given his experience in the Spanish second division with Malaga.

His long-term future will be addressed again at the end of the season, but it seems Cadiz haven’t given up hope of keeping him beyond the end of the campaign.
Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, Cadiz sporting director Juan Cala said: “There’s a possibility that his mother, who’s a Cadiz fan, and his father, who wants to build a house, could stay.
“Antonio’s level of play and his Newcastle contract are long. If he’s happy and we’re doing well, it would be great if he stayed here for many years. He’s a player in the Cadiz style. He has a long contract with Newcastle, and we can’t compete with that.”
