Newcastle United are being linked with a host of players during this summer’s transfer window and have now learned updates on James Trafford, Hugo Ekitike and Ollie Watkins.

Trafford has been a Newcastle United transfer target for a year now, while the interest in Ekitike dates back even longer.

The Frenchman rejected Newcastle in 2022 but has again been touted as a potential target.

Elsewhere, Watkins has been linked with Newcastle, although getting the England international out of Aston Villa looks difficult.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United transfer news and rumours.

Newcastle United hold fresh James Trafford talks

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle are looking to accelerate their plans to sign the Burnley goalkeeper.

Trafford wants to join Newcastle but the two clubs have so far been unable to agree a fee.

However, the report suggests that they are edging closer to an agreement. Burnley want £40million and Newcastle have so far bid £27million.

Still, it’s claimed that the shortfall could be made up of incentives and add-ons.

It would be brilliant to see a positive end to this long-running transfer saga soon.

Liverpool interested in Hugo Ekitike

Newcastle are keen on Ekitike, although they are not alone in the race.

Indeed, according to GIVEMESPORT, Liverpool are in fact looking to steal a march in the bid to sign the Frenchman.

They suggest that Liverpool are ready to open talks to sign the Eintracht Frankfurt forward rather imminently.

It’s said that the German club are confident they will get the £86million they are asking for. Newcastle are again linked in this report, along with clubs in Saudi Arabia.

It’s unclear whether or not Liverpool potentially signing Ekitike would stop their interest in Alexander Isak but spending such big money on him certainly wouldn’t help their chances.

Manchester United eye Ollie Watkins

England and Villa star Watkins has been touted as a target for Newcastle as they hunt for a new striker to replace Callum Wilson.

It looks a difficult deal to do. Watkins is one of Villa’s best players and they would surely be loath to lose him to a positional rival in the Premier League like Newcastle.

According to Caught Offside, Manchester United are also interested in the former Brentford forward.

It’s also added that Arsenal could yet move for Watkins.
