Newcastle United have continued their youth recruitment drive by signing Liverpool’s Isaac Moran.

While first team signings have been few and far between for Newcastle United this summer, the club are actively looking to strengthen for the future.

Antonio Cordero and Park Seung-soo have been signed this summer as the club look to land the next up-and-coming talent.

Cordero has joined Belgian side Westerlo on loan, while Seung-soo could stay at St James’ Park longer than initially expected after impressing during pre-season.

Oliver Goodbrand and Alfie Hutchison have also joined the Newcastle United academy from Scottish giants Rangers.

Moran is the latest new arrival. The 16-year-old central defender decided to leave Liverpool – who are trying to land Newcastle star Alexander Isak – and move to Tyneside.

Academy director Steve Harper is delighted about the news.

Steve Harper reacts as Newcastle United sign Isaac Moran from Liverpool

On Monday morning, the club confirmed the news on the Newcastle United official website.

Harper, who made 199 appearances in goal for Newcastle between 1993 and 2013, spoke of the club’s excitement.

Moran has captained England at youth level and will join Newcastle’s U18 squad for the season ahead.

Harper said: “Isaac joins us with a strong pedigree and a maturity beyond his years.

“The leadership qualities he has displayed to date speak volumes about his character, and we’re excited to help him continue developing both as a player and a person.

“He’s a driven individual who fits the values of our Academy perfectly.”

“Isaac’s addition to the Academy reflects the continued excellence of our recruitment team, whose efforts remain integral to our long-term strategy.”

How Newcastle United feel about Isaac Moran’s potential

Before the move became official, Fabrizio Romano shared an interesting bit of insight into how Newcastle view the teenager.

Taking to social media platform X, Romano revealed that Moran is seen as a “potential top CB for the future” by those inside the Newcastle United academy.

The Daily Mail, meanwhile, have previously claimed that Liverpool wanted to keep him. During a bruising summer for Newcastle largely thanks to Liverpool, it will no doubt be nice for supporters to get even a small victory over the Premier League champions when it comes to recruitment.

That is certainly promising, particularly now the defensive line has been strengthened on a more immediate basis too.

Indeed, Newcastle are set to sign Malick Thiaw from AC Milan after agreeing a deal for the German international with the Italian giants.
