Newcastle United have monitored Pyramids FC winger Ibrahim Adel with a view to a transfer, but they will face plenty of competition for his signature.
The 22-year-old is highly rated in his native Egypt and could be set for a high-profile move to the Premier League.
A versatile left-winger who can also play upfront, he has attracted interest from a number of sides across Europe, including Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.
A report from TEAMTALK has now claimed that Rangers tried and failed to sign the Egypt international in the summer window, and Newcastle, Brighton, Aston Villa, West Ham and Burnley, as well as others around Europe, are eyeing Adel up.
Adel has been previously linked with Liverpool, and clubs in Russia are also pushing to sign him in this month, but if a move does not materialise, he could be available in January.
A potential star
Links with a left-winger are somewhat surprising, given that Newcastle have recruited Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes in the last two transfer windows.
However, both options are capable of playing on the right, and this could make space for Adel to join.
Pyramids FC director Mahmoud Fathallah once described Adel as a “huge talent,” and he scored four times in 26 appearances last season.
Whilst he is far from the finished product, he could be a player to keep an eye on as he may have a huge future, but given the level of interest in him, it would be a surprise if Newcastle broke the bank to bring him in.
Newcastle already have a strong set of wingers, and if they were to bring another one in, it would possibly have to be an immediate upgrade on Barnes, Gordon or Miguel Almiron. Whilst Adel may be a huge talent, there is little need for Eddie Howe to recruit promising talent in his position right now.
