Newcastle United are reigniting their interest in Joao Pedro.

The Brazilian striker could be on the move this summer, with Joao Pedro looking to leave Brighton.

That could be music to the ears of Newcastle United. After all, Newcastle United nearly signed Pedro in 2022.

However, his £30million move from Watford to the Magpies collapsed, as Eddie Howe’s side brought in Alexander Isak instead.

Now Newcastle United are looking for someone to join Isak in attack, which could result in a fresh approach for Pedro.

According to the i Paper, Newcastle United have a ‘serious interest’ in the 23-year-old.

Newcastle want Liam Delap too, but face a lot of competition for his signature.

That is why the Magpies have alternatives on their radar, but some fans are concerned about the prospect of Joao Pedro arriving at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United fans react to Joao Pedro rumour

Following speculation that Newcastle want Pedro again, some fans have given their verdict on the forward on X (formerly known as Twitter).

One fan wrote: “Not too sure if I’m too keen on Joao Pedro. He gets a lot of injuries, not sure he starts for us either. Decent player, but I’m unsure. Anyone else convinced by him?”

Another added: “If any of the rumours are true, is it just me that wouldn’t want anything to do with Joao Pedro. For me he seems to lose his head quite a lot, which I wouldn’t want in my team if I was Eddie.”

“Pedro hasn’t exactly set the world alight at Brighton and his attitude seems questionable. Wouldn’t complain if it was £30 million, but price seems to be double that. No thanks,” wrote a third Newcastle fan.

“Pedro would cost £60 or £70million so can’t see that happening,” added another member of the Toon Army.

“Can’t see us getting Joao Pedro,” summed up this fan.

Finally, this Newcastle United supporter made it clear who he wants to sign, posting: “Delap over Pedro please.”

Why Joao Pedro missed Brighton’s final game of the season

Amid speculation over his future, Pedro missed Brighton’s final game of the season.

He was not even in the Seagulls’ squad as Fabian Hurzeler’s side ended the campaign with a 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Pedro’s absence was confirmed ahead of the game, with the forward ruled out due to a training ground incident.

“With Joao we had a small issue in training, a type which isn’t uncommon from time to time in all football clubs. We dealt with it internally and the matter is closed,” Hurzeler told ESPN on Friday.

“Joao is an incredible football player. He is a match winner for us. That’s why we invested in him. But there are principles, there are values. They are non-negotiable.

“Joao is still a young player, and [there is] still a lot of potential that he will grow. I’m sure he’ll learn from this and come back stronger next season.”

In total, Pedro missed 15 games this season for Brighton.

He made 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists.

His numbers are extremely impressive, and he is clearly a player that Eddie Howe really likes given how close Newcastle United were to signing him three years ago.

A move to Tyneside will be even more appealing now, with Champions League football on offer after the Magpies finished the Premier League campaign in fifth.
