Newcastle United fans all unhappy with the latest transfer rumours, they make ‘zero sense’

Newcastle United fans on social media platform X are unhappy at the mere prospect of selling Kieran Trippier this summer.

Trippier has been one of the most transformative signings in Newcastle United history. The first signing of the PIF era at St James’ Park, he played a huge part in the initial run of success on Tyneside.

After a difficult second full season at the club, Trippier returned to form last time out. The 34-year-old proved brilliant as Newcastle won the Carabao Cup and qualified for the Champions League again during the memorable 2024/25 campaign.

The former England international may not start regularly next season now that Lewis Hall has returned from injury, meaning Tino Livramento will likely return to his natural role of right-back.

Still, Trippier remains a huge part of Eddie Howe’s squad and his experience will no doubt be vital ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League.

Indeed, that’s exactly why fans are unhappy at his recent links away.

Newcastle United fans react as Kieran Trippier linked with Monaco

According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, French side Monaco are interested in the former Spurs defender.

Eric Dier, who has played with Trippier for both club and country, joined them this summer along with former Manchester United star Paul Pogba.

Trippier is now said to be the latest on their list, although Downie adds that Newcastle do not want to sell.

“We absolutely DO NOT want to lose Kieran Trippier, we need him more than ever,” said one fan.

Another added: “With everything we still need to do in this window and everyone we’ve lost this summer. It’s just not the right time to let Trippier go.”

“Trippier leaving now just makes absolutely zero sense. I’d rather give him a two year contract than lose such an experienced player who can cover both full back positions when we’re fighting on four fronts,” said one supporter.

Kieran Trippier has already sent a major message on his Newcastle United future

Trippier says he “can’t wait” to face Sunderland for Newcastle next season, which would suggest he’s only got eyes for St James’ Park.

With one year left on his contract, it’s difficult to see why the club would sell. He’s unlikely to attract a major transfer fee given his age and Newcastle have no immediate PSR concerns.

Livramento and Hall may be the starters next season but, such is the football calendar, there will clearly be plenty of minutes for Trippier too.

One more season at the club before deciding his next move once his contract expires feels a more palatable outcome than selling a key player now.
