Newcastle United have identified multiple positions that they want to improve in this summer.
It is going to be an extremely important summer transfer window for the Magpies, as Paul Mitchell aims to improve Newcastle’s squad.
It has been reported that centre-back is a priority for Newcastle, with the club keen to bring in Fabian Schar’s long-term successor.
Newcastle United also need a winger, as Miguel Almiron has not been replaced following his January departure to Atlanta United.
However, a new report suggests that the Magpies could also look to improve their midfield options.

Newcastle United targeting Matteo Guendouzi
That is according to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that Newcastle want to strengthen their midfield.
They report that Lazio player Matteo Guendouzi is one of the Magpies’ top targets in that position, having been interested in him in the past.
Tuttomercatoweb add that Eddie Howe is a fan of the 26-year-old’s tactical and technical ability, with Guendouzi ‘among the very first names on the notebook’ ahead of the summer transfer window.
Guendouzi is a player that has the Premier League experience that Howe craves. He was in the Arsenal first-team for two seasons before being loaned out to Hertha Berlin and Marseille. During his time at the Emirates, the Frenchman was teammates with current Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock.
Newcastle United midfielder’s future uncertain
It remains to be seen what changes will be made to the Newcastle United midfield next season.
Sean Longstaff’s Newcastle future is unclear after being linked with a move away from St James’ Park in January.
The 27-year-old has not started a Premier League game since losing 4-2 to Brentford on December 7th.
However, with European football set to return to Tyneside, Newcastle United could opt to keep Longstaff as he is a homegrown player who has come through the club’s academy.
If Longstaff were to leave, there is a chance that the Magpies could look to bring in a direct replacement. Howe currently has six first-team midfielder, with Longstaff joined by Willock, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Lewis Miley.
