Newcastle transfer target has just been told ‘it’s better’ if he leaves by his manager in public

Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson is one of the many strikers Newcastle United have considered signing this summer.

Jackson is a Newcastle United transfer target, with the club eager to bring in more firepower even before Alexander Isak asked to leave.

Indeed, Newcastle lost Callum Wilson on a free transfer earlier this summer, meaning Eddie Howe was always on the hunt for a forward regardless of what happens with Isak.

Chelsea value Jackson at £80million, which could make a move prohibitive for Newcastle.

The Senegal striker has been linked with various other clubs too and the Blues clearly want to move him on.

How much of an impact it has on their valuation remains to be seen but Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has spoken out.

Enzo Maresca speaks on Nicolas Jackson

The Italian was speaking ahead of Chelsea’s clash against West Ham on Friday night.

Maresca was asked about Jackson’s situation, along with fellow Chelsea outcast Christopher Nkunku.

He revealed that it would be “better” if both players left Stamford Bridge this summer, such is the depth of the Chelsea squad.

The London club, of course, beat Newcastle to the signings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap earlier this summer.

“As we already said, we have two strikers,” he said.

“And also we know that something can happen before the transfer window closes.

“If they are going to be here, they will be with us. If not, it means they found a solution. I think it’s better if they find a solution because they are going to be more happy.”

Newcastle United not convinced by Nicolas Jackson

There’s little doubt that the 24-year-old is a talent. While not at the level of Isak, he’s still scored 24 goals in 60 Premier League games for a Chelsea side who hadn’t fully convinced until reasonably recently.

Jackson would not be a bad signing for Newcastle, though it is clearly dependent on the price tag involved.

Newcastle have reservations about Jackson and they are understandable. The jury is arguably still out on whether he’ll ever prove to be worth such huge money.

If Newcastle are not fully convinced, paying top dollar for a player does not seem wise.
