Newcastle United may now struggle to lure Valentino Lazaro back to St. James’ Park.

According to the player’s agent, Lazaro is keen to stay at Inter Milan.

The Austria international moved there back in 2019, but has only turned out 11 times for them.

He, of course, went on loan to Newcastle for the second half of the 2019/20 season.

And last term he was loaned out to Borussia Monchengladbach.

It would suggest that Inter are not totally struck by Lazaro.

But that makes no odds to the player, who is hoping to stay on the books of the Serie A club.

His agent Max Hagmayr said: “I met Inter directors today and I told them Valentino wants to stay. He is negative for COVID and will join the team soon.”

Hagmayr’s comments come after there were claims Lazaro actually fancied a return to St. James’.

Inter are now coached by Simone Inzaghi, so perhaps Lazaro feels it could be a fresh opportunity for him.

Not a total disaster for Newcastle

Versatile Lazaro would perhaps have been nice to have, but realistically it’s not a hammer blow that he wants to stay with Inter.

During his last spell he had a few good outings, but did really not pull up trees.

Newcastle need to be signing players they absolutely need right now, such as a new box-to-box midfielder and backup striker.
