Newcastle United are reportedly weighing up a late swoop for Scotland international Jack Hendry.
The Daily Mail claimed yesterday that a tussle is breaking out over the 26-year-old, as the summer window nears its end.
Hendry actually only completed a permanent transfer to Oostende from Celtic earlier this summer.
Supposedly that was for around £1.8 million.
But it’s claimed the Belgian outfit are looking to turn a quick profit on the central defender.
Oostende value their man at £8 million, but the Daily Mail say a deal could be done for as little as £4 million.
Burnley, Southampton, West Brom, Sheffield United are all keen, as well as Italian side Torino.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle can do something here.
It has been widely reported that the Magpies will be looking to dip into the loan market if they’re going to add to Joe Willock.
Oostende would surely be unwilling to sanction any kind of loan.
Newcastle chances very slim
Newcastle completing this deal seems very unlikely given a number of other clubs are seemingly interested.
It could well be that a bidding war breaks out.
And should that happen, his price will obviously get pushed up and that’s not something Newcastle want.
It’s a shame because for the figures mentioned by the Daily Mail, Hendry could make for good business for someone.
He really revitalised his career last season, and would be a good pick-up for under £10 million.
