Tyler Adams could suffer relegation with Leeds United this season, but perhaps Newcastle United could offer the midfielder a second chance in the Premier League.

Newcastle are planning to sign a midfielder over the summer, ahead of a season that will hopefully include Champions League football.

And a new report from the Times claims that the Magpies have been tracking Adams’ progress, keeping tabs on the Leeds ace ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old is currently out of action with a hamstring problem, while his side struggle to preserve their Premier League status. Leeds are 16th in the table at the moment, two points clear of the drop zone. However, they have lost back-to-back home games, losing 5-1 to Crystal Palace before Liverpool beat them 6-1 on Monday night.

It is looking desperate for Leeds, who are badly missing the United States captain. He has been impressive during his debut Premier League season, joining the Yorkshire side last summer from RB Leipzig for £20million.

Tyler Adams was brilliant against Newcastle earlier this season

One of Adams’ best performances actually came at St James’ Park, as he helped Leeds pick up a point against the Magpies.

The two sides drew 0-0 on December 31st 2022, with Adams proving to be one of the best players on the pitch. He was a constant nuisance on a wet afternoon on Tyneside, winning tackle after tackle to disrupt Newcastle’s attacks.

The American actually ended up annoying the Newcastle players, with Bruno Guimaraes eventually squaring up to him. It is fair to say he gave us a taste of our own medicine…

Now they could become teammates, with Toon officials continuing to monitor Adams’ progress. He might not be a glamour signing, but has the tools and personality to thrive in Eddie Howe’s current midfield.

Whether or not he is available might depend on which division they find themselves in next season. Javi Gracia’s team have seven games to go, as they look to avoid relegation to the Championship.
