Newcastle United showed an interest in signing Roger Fernandes during the summer, and are reportedly set to make a fresh move for the teenager.
Fernandes was linked with a move to St James’ Park a few months ago, back when he was just 16-years-old. It was claimed that the Magpies were willing to pay as much as £17million to secure his services.
However, a move failed to come fruition. But like other targets over the past year, Newcastle are seemingly willing to come back to the table.
The club did it with Sven Botman after failing to sign him in January. They weren’t put off, and made a fresh attempt to get him in the summer. Now Botman is a Magpie and flying in black and white.
The Toon owners have proven they are willing to be patient for the players they want, and are seemingly once again keen on signing Braga’s talented teen.
Newcastle reignite interest in teenager Roger Fernandes
According to A Bola in Portugal, Newcastle are going to make a fresh move for Fernandes. However, they reportedly will not offer as much as they did during the summer.
That is because they believe his value has decreased, with the now 17-year-old back playing with the reserves following a change of manager at Braga.
So will Newcastle be able to get their man for less than the £17million they wanted to pay just a few months ago? If they are able to, it will surely go down as a good bit of business.
Dan Ashworth and the recruitment team clearly rate Fernandes if they’re keen to reignite Newcastle’s interest. And they must not be put off by his dip since Artur Jorge replaced Carlos Carvalhal.
He is the latest young prospect linked with a move to St James’ Park, as Ashworth looks to increase the quality that is coming through Newcastle’s ranks.
Some top teenagers have been targeted by the Magpies since he became Sporting Director, with Garang Kuol already set for a move to the North East.
Fernandes would be another exciting attacking addition, especially if he can recapture the form that first caught Newcastle’s eye.
