FC Midtjylland are expecting to sell reported Newcastle United target Jens Cajuste in the next few weeks.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with the Magpies in recent weeks, as Steve Bruce bids to improve his midfield options ahead of the new season.

According to Express journalist Ryan Taylor, the race for Cajuste is now hotting up.

Apparently, the Danish club are expecting Cajuste to leave in the next few weeks, although things could move quickly.

At the moment, Newcastle are the highest bidders for the 22-year-old after offering £13.5 million.

But Brentford are said to be the favourites and Leeds United are also keen.

It’s also stated that Rennes, who have bid three times for the Swede, could return with a fourth offer.

Cajuste is yet to feature for Midtjylland since returning after Euro 2020.

Ominously, he played no part in their Champions League qualifying games against Celtic and PSV Eindhoven.

A reasonable chance of landing Cajuste

Newcastle being the highest bidders so far is good news.

The club’s sporting director Svend Graversen has said of the situation (via Chronicle): “There is such intense interest in Jens that I have a hard time seeing nothing happening to him in the near future.”

Cajuste to Newcastle does seem to have legs, but it will be interesting to see what happens if Joe Willock comes in.

Some Newcastle fans would like to think both players can be signed rather than just one.
