Newcastle transfer news: Toon target ‘new Gerard Pique’ Luka Vuskovic

Newcastle United are the latest club to show an interest in 16-year-old sensation Luka Vuskovic.

Vuskovic is a teenage defender who currently plays for Hajduk Split in Croatia, but is attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs. And now Newcastle are seemingly keen.

According to 90min, the Magpies are showing an interest in the centre-back, who looks set to be sold this summer.

However, Eddie Howe faces major competition if Newcastle decide they are serious about Vuskovic.

Manchester City make Luka Vuskovic bid

90min add that while Newcastle are one of the clubs that are interested, there have already been two bids made for the teenage sensation.

They state that both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have made offers for Vuskovic, which is a testament to his incredible ability and potential.

Man City’s bid is reportedly worth £10.5million, but that will not be enough to tempt Hajduk to sell. 90min believe that a deal worth £13million is more likely.

It is big money for a player so young, but Vuskovic is already being compared to one of the best centre-backs of the 21st century.

Newcastle eye the ‘new Gerard Pique’

According to website Football Talent Scout, Vuskovic is similar in style to Gerard Pique. That is high praise given how good he was during his Barcelona career.

Pique is a player who won it all for both club and country, combing defensive power with ability on the ball.

That is what clubs are looking for from modern defenders nowadays, which is why Newcastle have struck gold with Sven Botman. He is the ‘complete package‘ according to teammate Fabian Schar.

Vuskovic is much younger, but is clearly someone who is tipped to go right to the top of the game. That is why the likes of Man City and PSG are trying to snap him up now.

That could make a move to Newcastle incredibly difficult, but at least we are in the conversation…

The Magpies are set to be in the market for a centre-back this summer and while they will want someone young, they will likely target someone with a bit more experience than Vuskovic – even if the 6ft 4in youngster has already broke into the Hajduk first-team.
