Newcastle United are reportedly ready to make a fresh bid for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez,.

The Magpies are in desperate need of a new centre-forward, following the recent injury blow involving Callum Wilson.

The club’s number nine is set to spend around eight weeks on the sidelines after going off injured against Manchester United in the final game of 2021.

Newcastle, arguably, needed another striker to come in anyway.

But it has now become paramount for the club to welcome a new centre-forward.

Ideally, the club will pull something out of the bag and get someone in and available to play against Watford on Saturday.

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Newcastle are set to go back in for Nunez.

Earlier this month, the club were apparently quoted £50 million by Benfica for their prized asset.

Supposedly, Newcastle are now ‘tightening their grip’ on the player. The club are prepared to pay in excess of £50 million to get him to St. James’ Park.

Benfica don’t really want to lose the 22-year-old. He is the current joint-top scorer in the Portuguese league with 13 goals, along with Luis Diaz.

But there is a chance for them to make some serious money on Nunez, with Atletico Madrid also keen.

Time is of the essence for Newcastle, as club reportedly prepare new Darwin Nunez bid

Given how much surgery the Newcastle squad needs, it is slightly concerning that only one new face has come in so far.

Hopefully those behind the scenes will come through by the end of the month.

But signing a new striker in the next couple of days would be ideal.

Newcastle absolutely need someone of quality leading the line against Watford. Nunez is certainly quality, and also full of potential.

At this point, Newcastle are probably just going to have to fork out. There is simply no time to lose negotiating.
