Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen.
That is according to 90min, who claim that the Magpies have held talks about bringing the 26-year-old to Tyneside. The report states that Liverpool have also shown interest, and have spoke to intermediaries about the centre-back’s future in Germany.
Tah currently plays in the Bundesliga, but is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window.
That could be good news for Newcastle and Liverpool, who both appear to be eyeing the towering defender. Tah is a giant at the back for Bayer Leverkusen, coming in at 6ft 5in. For context, our Dutch powerhouse Sven Botman is 6ft 4in.
The Germany international is keen to move to England, and has plenty of clubs chasing his signature. Nottingham Forest tried to sign him last month, while 90min state that West Ham could also register their interest.
However, the Hammers have previously passed up the opportunity to sign Tah.

Tah has been on the radar of English clubs for a long time, and was linked with a move to West Ham during the summer window of 2020.
However, the Hammers decided against a move according to reports. The Guardian reported in October 2020 that David Moyes’ side would have to pay £30million for the defender, but a move did not come to fruition. The Sun later added that West Ham refused to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price.
Fast forward to 2023 and Tah is the subject of Premier League interest again, and 90min have suggested that the Hammers could make a fresh move.
However, they will face competition from Newcastle and Liverpool, which could be difficult to overcome. A move to St James’ Park could be very appealing for a player like Tah this summer – especially if Eddie Howe’s side qualify for the Champions League.
