Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.
The Magpies are still in the market for a midfielder, having made four senior additions so far this summer. Dan Ashworth has brought in Matt Targett, Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak.
However, at least one more body is required to take this from a very good transfer window to a sensational transfer window.
And Tielemans certainly fits the bill.
Newcastle interested in Tielemans
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are looking at whether or not they have a chance of signing the Belgian midfielder before the transfer window closes.
He’s been linked with a move away from Leicester all summer, with his contract set to expire in 2023. Arsenal have been rumoured to be making a move, but are yet to secure the signature of the talented 25-year-old.
That means Newcastle have the opportunity to sweep in, and he would be another landmark recruit if he does arrive at St James’ Park.
Tielemans is a sensational midfielder who is still at an age where he can get better. And he could do that at Newcastle, who are looking to break into the European places in the coming years.
Eddie Howe’s side are now an exciting team, and a move to the North East for Tielemans would be the latest stage in the club’s extraordinary evolution.
However, Amanda Staveley and co will need to put their hands in their pockets to sign him before 11pm tomorrow.
Available for £25million
With Tielemans in the final year of his contract, he is available for a decent fee. This is the last chance Leicester have got to get some proper money for him, or risk him going for nothing next summer.
And Sky Sports claim that his asking price is just £25million. For the quality that Tielemans has got, that is an absolute bargain.
If Newcastle can afford £25million then they absolutely have to push ahead with a deal. The Belgium international could thrive alongside Bruno Guimaraes, and has proven himself to be a leader despite being just 25-years-old.
In the words of Brendan Rodgers, he’s ‘one of Europe’s top midfielders‘. So if we can sign him for £25million it would be an absolute bargain.
At the moment, it seems as though Newcastle are just scouting out a potential deal. But with Leicester’s asking price set, this feels like an absolute no brainer.
Let’s hope Ashworth makes a move and gets Howe one more transfer gem.
