Newcastle transfer news: Toon in four-team chase for Malang Sarr

Newcastle United are reportedly one of four teams chasing a loan move for Chelsea defender Malang Sarr.

According to Foot Mercato, the Magpies are interested in raiding the Blues for the Frenchman, who is on the periphery at Stamford Bridge.

Sarr, 22, spent last season on loan at FC Porto, and returned to his parent club in the summer.

Biggest STAR Your Club Are Trying To SIGN This Month

It was thought he would head out on loan again this term. But he ended up staying put with Thomas Tuchel’s first-team.

So far this term, Sarr has made just nine appearances across all competitions.

There is a lot of competition for minutes in defence for Chelsea. Currently, Sarr is behind Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, Trevoh Chalobah and Cesar Azpilicueta in the pecking order.

Foot Mercato claim Newcastle are now ready to test Chelsea’s resolve over the player. The claim comes after Newcastle were actually linked with a loan move for Sarr during the last window.

But Eddie Howe faces competition, with West Ham United, Everton and Leicester City all mentioned as being keen.

It’s stated that Chelsea don’t want to let him go.

Newcastle are in desperate need of new recruits, and are thought to be fighting hard to sign Diego Carlos from Sevilla.

He is now their main target, after the club failed to land Sven Botman from Lille.

Malang Sarr loan would be a risky move by Newcastle

Newcastle making a move for Sarr would be a risky play.

The star is only 22 and, while that doesn’t making him that young, he doesn’t have a great deal of Premier League experience.

Sarr has only ever featured twice in the competition, and he’s mainly played as a left-sided centre-back for the Blues.

Since his arrival at the club, Howe has taken Newcastle away from a system that uses three centre-backs.

Thomas Tuchel has previously called Sarr ‘solid’ and ‘consistent’ (chelseafc.com). But it would be a definite risk to loan in Sarr and start playing him in a typical back four. As promising a player he is.
