Newcastle United have reportedly been in contact with Liverpool about defender Nat Phillips.
Goal have reported today that the centre-half is attracting a fair bit of attention after his exploits last season.

Phillips was thrust into the Reds’ backline by Jurgen Klopp following injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
By the end of the season, he had made 17 Premier League appearances.
It was widely accepted that Phillips did a really good job in the absence of three key players.
He was praised particularly for his aerial dominance.

According to Goal, interest is now high in Phillips. Burnley and Brighton supposedly lead the chase.
Newcastle are said to have made contact with Liverpool.
Goal suggest he could cost in the region of £12 million.
Phillips would be a good addition for Newcastle
A number of teams keen on Phillips. A deal could therefore be tricky to pull off for Newcastle.
But the 24-year-old would surely bolster the Magpies’ defence.

He’s a solid, steady performer. That aerial dominance would also be very nice to have.
If Newcastle could get him and pair him with someone with a bit of mobility – Tosin Adarabioyo for example – the backline would be in much better shape.
