Newcastle United are among the clubs to have shown an interest in Tottenham Hotspur youngster Oliver Skipp.

The Daily Mail have reported Steve Bruce is an admirer of the English midfielder.

Newcastle are desperate to try and strengthen their midfield before the new season gets underway.

Joe Willock is the main target but hopes appear to be fading now.

The Magpies have apparently bid for Boubacar Kamara and also shown interest in Hamza Choudhury.

But there have been no breakthroughs as of yet.

Skipp spent last season on loan at eventual Championship title winners Norwich City.

It was a very successful stint for him as he made 47 appearances across all competitions.

Skipp has a lot of competition back at Spurs, and it could be that he is permitted another loan move.

The club have high hopes for Skipp, and former manager Jose Mourinho actually once described him as a future captain of the club (Evening Standard).

The Portuguese also called him phenomenal after Spurs lost in the FA Cup to Norwich on penalties (via football.london).

Sign him up

He’s not a goalscorer like Willock, but Skipp would still be a good addition for Newcastle.

He enjoyed a great spell with Norwich, and actually finished 2020/21 with a place in the Championship Team of the Year.

Spurs are said to be undecided about whether to loan Skipp out again just at the moment.

Surely Newcastle can point to the success of Willock at St. James’ Park to try and convince them.
