Newcastle United could make a January move for Edin Dzeko.

According to The Sun, the Magpies are eyeing the Bosnia international striker, who only joined Inter in the summer.

The 35-year-old left AS Roma at the end of his contract to join the reigning Serie A champions.

Dzeko’s playing career may now be winding down, but the goals have still been flowing for the former Manchester City star.

He’s scored 11 goals in 23 appearances so far this term.

And for Roma, he bagged 119 in 260 games – a really solid return.

Dzeko signed a two-year contract with Inter, and it remains to be seen if the club would be interested in turning an instant profit.

The club are currently battling rivals AC Milan at the top of Serie A, and could do without losing a key player and proven goalscorer.

But Newcastle’s new financial might could prove decisive.

At the moment, Newcastle have Callum Wilson providing the bulk of the goals.

But beyond the Englishman, Newcastle are lacking a goal threat.

Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton are not out-and-out strikers, and Dwight Gayle is not at the required level and could potential depart next month.

Edin Dzeko would be a solid signing for Newcastle in January

Newcastle fans should hope there is something in this.

Dzeko would be a fantastic addition by Newcastle if they can somehow pull it off.

Despite his advancing years he is still scoring goals, and the star obviously has Premier League experience having played for a few years at Manchester City – whom he won two Premier League titles with.

Maybe Inter would be unwilling to let him go.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho said it was a surprise to lose Dzeko, suggesting he was hopeful of keeping the star.

But it is worth looking into at least. Newcastle – who face City today – are in a world of trouble, and Dzeko would undoubtedly provide a bit of extra firepower going forwards.
