Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Alan Varela, and a bid worth £15million could enough to convince Boca Juniors to sell.
Reports emerged earlier this week that the Magpies are keen on the 21-year-old midfielder, as they look to take advantage of the South American market.
Plenty of players from Argentina and Brazil have been linked with moves to St James’ Park over the past six months, as Dan Ashworth looks to bring talented youngsters with stacks of potential to the club.
A new midfielder is on the agenda, which is why the likes of Andrey Santos and Maximo Perrone were targeted. However, they are set to join Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.
Now Newcastle appear to have turned their attention to Varela, a tough tackling midfielder who helped Boca win the Primera Division title last year.
And the Argentinian champions could be forced to sell him to the Magpies.
£15m bid could be enough for Newcastle to get Alan Varela
According to Argentinian website MDZ, Boca will most likely agree to sell Varela to Newcastle if they make an offer worth £15million – which is the amount that Ashworth is reportedly willing to pay.
MDZ state that a bid worth that much would be almost impossible to turn down.
The report adds that even if Newcastle do make a move now, the deal would be to sign Varela in the summer, meaning he would spend another six months with Boca.
That will delight their manager Hugo Ibarra, who is set to make a change involving Varela. MDZ believe that the midfielder is going to swap his number 33 shirt for the number five jersey, which is now available after Carlos Zambrano left the club.
Varela could soon be on his way out too, with Newcastle seemingly keen to bring him to St James’ Park.
At £15million, he is very affordable. And if Ashworth believes that he is a player who can thrive in the Premier League then a deal must be pursued.
