Newcastle transfer news: Magpies want to sign 17-year-old Garang Kuol

Newcastle United are reportedly one of multiple clubs who want to sign Australian wonderkid Garang Kuol.

That’s according to the Sydney Morning Herald, who state that the Magpies, Barcelona and Chelsea are just some of the teams interested in signing the 17-year-old in January.

There is a long list of sides keen to snap up the teenage sensational. The Sydney Morning Herald believe that a dozen European clubs are interested in him. Teams from the Netherlands and Germany are looking at him, as well as England and Spain.

They add that Newcastle are near the front of the queue, and that Kuol is almost certain to leave Central Coast Mariners at the start of 2023.

That’s good news for Dan Ashworth and co, who could be lining up a deal for one of the brightest talents to ever come out of Australia.

Newcastle want future star Garang Kuol

While he is only 17-years-old, Kuol has already made quite the impression in Australia. He made nine appearances for Central Coast Mariners last season, all of which came off the bench. However, he was able to score four goals and provide an assist.

Kuol then appeared for the A-League All Stars side against Barcelona, where he dazzled against one of the world’s biggest clubs.

The youngster swapped shirts with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the game, and received praise from Barca boss Xavi.

“He was very fast and we conceded two or three chances because of him,” Xavi said.

“He’s a great player and he has a great future, he is a talent that is obvious.”

Kuol’s performance against Barcelona has led to the Catalan side being interested in a deal. However, Newcastle are too and he could be another smart addition by Ashworth.

The Toon Sporting Director always appears to be planning for the future, and the Aussie forward certainly has the potential to go far in the game.

He’s already being rumoured to become a full international. He is reportedly in with an outside shot of going to the World Cup with Australia.

That could be the first real chance Toon fans get to see Kuol, who will hopefully end up wearing black and white in the future if Ashworth can complete a deal.
