Newcastle United are reportedly set to discuss personal terms with Mitchel Bakker.
The Telegraph have claimed the club have made progress on a deal with Bayer Leverkusen.
This coming week is absolutely huge for the football club.
Newcastle have made just two signings so far in the January window. They have encountered frustration in convincing players to join and/or clubs to sell.
Newcastle’s position in the Premier League is also believed to have been a factor in their struggles to get players in.
But their position strengthened slightly yesterday, with the Magpies recording a huge win over Leeds United.
Jonjo Shelvey’s free-kick proved to be the difference between the two teams. The club are currently now only one point behind Norwich City in 17th.
The next game is against Everton on February 8, and there is potential for the squad to be looking much stronger.
And it seems full-back Bakker could well be a part of that matchday squad.
Apparently Newcastle have made good progress in their pursuit of the player.
The Daily Mail reported recently that the Magpies have already made a bid of £14.5 million for Dutchman Bakker.
Newcastle must be ruthless operators this week – the club’s PL status depends on it
Newcastle have simply got to show ruthlessness this week.
The club are just a point away from safety right now. But the club face a very difficult run-in.
It is so important for Howe to get his side picking up a good amount of points before playing the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Wolves, Leicester City and Liverpool across March and April.
Adding Bakker to the squad would be a great move.
