Newcastle United have reportedly made an approach for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli in recent days.
It was reported earlier this week that the Magpies are keen on the centre-half, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The player has held talks with Rossoneri officials about signing an extension.
But it seems the 27-year-old will be moving onto pastures new this summer.
Calciomercato are now reporting that he has ‘very little chance of staying’.
And the Italian outlet claim Newcastle have actually made an approach of some kind in recent days, as well as Lazio who are seemingly the biggest competition.
Romagnoli has been with Milan since the summer of 2015, joining from AS Roma.
He has clocked up 246 appearances for the giants so far, but it looks as though he wont be adding too many more to that tally.
Newcastle would get summer window off to a great start with free swoop for Romagnoli
So it’s looking like Romagnoli will play for a new club after this season.
He surely would have signed a new deal with Milan by now if he wanted to stick around.
Newcastle seemingly feel there’s a good chance to get him having made an approach.
And he’d be a really solid addition coming in as a free agent.
He’s vastly experienced and a fantastic age at 27. He’s now entering into his prime years, and Newcastle need players who can make an impact now.

He’s also a leader, having been Milan’s captain since 2018.
Lazio look like they’ll be competition, and that would probably be a nice domestic move for him to make.
But the Newcastle project is bound to be exciting, and it might just be that he’s ready for a different challenge overseas.
