Leeds United winger Raphinha was recently the subject of an offer from Newcastle United, according to UOL.
Apparently, the Magpies tabled a £35 million proposal for the Brazilian attacker.
Raphinha has been linked with an exit from Elland Road in the last two windows, after enjoying a superb first season in English football.
After signing for Leeds for around £17 million, he very quickly established himself as one of the best players outside the Big Six clubs.
This term, Raphinha has again been in really good form.
While Leeds have struggled as a collective, he has scored nine goals and made three assists so far.
He has previously been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich, and Barcelona and Liverpool have also expressed interest.
But UOL have said that Newcastle have also shown they’re keen.
Apparently a £35 million offer was made, although it is not clear when exactly that was. They just add that there was no agreement between the two clubs.
Raphinha will have two years left on his contract this summer. That puts Leeds in a fairly strong position over the player.
Realistically, he would be very expensive for potential suitors.
And today, there was a claim that Newcastle’s summer transfer budget is only going to be around £60 million.
Raphinha would be an amazing signing by Newcastle
Newcastle landing Raphinha would be a very exciting deal.
The South American has been a breath of fresh air since his arrival in the Premier League, and is a huge talent.
He is reminiscent of Riyad Mahrez in the way he plays. And it’s possible he could become as good as the Manchester City star, who made his name at Leicester City.
Last season, he impressed Toon legend Alan Shearer with his display against Sheffield United. He said of him (via Leeds Live): “He’s very good on the ball, but what impresses me also is his work-rate, the ability for him to get back and help out, do his bit defensively.
Raphinha would be very expensive, especially because a number of clubs are on his tail.
If Newcastle can somehow get him in, then that would be hugely exciting for the football club.
