Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Danish winger Gustav Isaksen.

That’s according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, who believe the Magpies could challenge AC Milan for the 21-year-old’s signature.

Isaksen currently plays in Denmark for Midtjylland, but is receiving a lot of admiring glances from teams across Europe.

The attacker is enjoying an impressive season in front of goal, with seven strikes to his name so far. Three of those have came in the Europa League, with his most recent goal coming in a 2-1 defeat to Lazio on Thursday night.

With his incredible speed and exciting dribbling ability, it is no wonder that multiple teams are keen to sign Isaksen. As well as Newcastle and AC Milan, Calciomercato believe that Arsenal, West Ham and Fiorentina are interested.

They add that Midtjylland are unlikely to sell Isaksen for less than £17million.

A chance for Newcastle to gazump AC Milan once again

The report states that right wing is a problem position for AC Milan right now, and they seemingly believe that Isaksen could be the solution.

It has also been a position of concern at St James’ Park, with Newcastle trying and failing to sign a right-sided forward during the summer transfer window.

If they were to beat AC Milan to his signature, it would be the second time in recent memory that the Magpies have gazumped the Serie A champions. We managed to beat them in the race to sign Sven Botman this summer, and the Dutchman is proving to be a revelation at the back.

Should Newcastle make a move for Isaksen and bring him to the North East, it would be another blow for AC Milan. And he would arrive on Tyneside with the immediate task of competing with Eddie Howe’s most in-form player right now.

Newcastle interested in Isaksen despite Almiron form

While Newcastle desperately needed a winger in the summer, Miguel Almiron is proving to be more than up to the task right now.

The Paraguayan has started every Premier League game for Howe, and has a career best six Premier League goals so far.

He is enjoying a rich vein of form, and is playing better than he ever has before in a Newcastle shirt. The confidence is pulsing through Almiron, epitomised by his winning goal against Tottenham on Sunday.

However, Newcastle are seemingly still looking to boost their attacking options in the near future. While Almiron is playing well, this form surely won’t last forever.

He is 28-years-old, and Howe will be keen to bring in a player for the future in that position. Isaksen can be exactly that.

The Denmark Under-21 international has Almiron’s obscene pace, and can go past defenders with ease. He has the natural ability to be a star, and Howe has proven he can mould players and help them achieve their potential.

While the interest does not seem to be concrete at the moment, Isaksen could be an exciting target for Newcastle. And it is proof that the club are not going to rest on their laurels even with Almiron playing out of his skin.
