Newcastle transfer news: Magpies eye Juventus’ Samuel Iling-Junior

Newcastle United are reportedly one of the Premier League clubs that is interested in signing Samuel Iling-Junior from Juventus this summer.

The 19-year-old took the plunge and moved to Italy in 2020, and now Iling-Junior is being linked with a move back to England.

90min believe that Newcastle, as well as Manchester City and Chelsea, are keen to sign the teenager this summer. Interest from Chelsea is particularly intriguing, as that is where he began his career before joining Juventus.

The winger has started to make a real impression in Serie A under Max Allegri, and has made 11 first-team appearances this season, including one in the Champions League where he got an assist.

Samuel lling-Junior scores for England

Iling-Junior was in action for England Under-20s last night, and was decisive in the young Three Lions winning against Germany.

He started on the left of attack for Ian Foster’s side, and scored both of England’s goals in a 2-0 win. The first was a clever finish at the near post after being played through on goal by Brooke Norton-Cuffy, then he showed real attacking instinct for a second.

A ball was dragged across the face of goal, and Iling-Junior was in the perfect position to score a tap in for his second ever England Under-20s goal.

It was an impressive showing from the teenager, who justified why Newcastle and other top clubs want to sign him.

Newcastle might have an ace up their sleeve

Iling-Junior is currently represented by CAA Base, who are the agency that also represent Newcastle’s on-pitch captain Kieran Trippier. He moved to St James’ Park in January 2022.

They also represent Chris Wood, who made the move to Tyneside last year before linking up with Nottingham Forest. It was actually Trippier’s agent that made the Magpies aware of Wood’s release clause, which allowed him to move to St James’ Park.

That common ground could potentially give Newcastle an advantage when it comes to negotiations.

Iling-Junior is clearly one for the future, but is already making a name for himself in Italy – despite Juve’s recent struggles.

Dan Ashworth is keen to bring young players with lots of potential to St James’ Park, and Iling-Junior fits the bill. The fact that he is English is also a boost with regards to homegrown quotas.
