Newcastle transfer news: Magpies’ bid to sign Andrey Santos is on hold

Newcastle United reportedly want to sign Andrey Santos, but the Magpies’ bid to land the teenager is currently on hold.

Eddie Howe’s side have been linked with signing the young midfielder since the start of the month. It was reported by TNT Sport that Newcastle made contact with Brazilian side Vasco da Gama about signing the South American sensation.

He has since signed a new contract with the Serie B side until 2027. And the new deal includes a release clause worth almost £45million.

That’s more than Newcastle want to pay for the 18-year-old. It has been reported that the Magpies proposed a deal worth £31million. However, Vasco are in no rush to lose their most talented youngster.

And it looks like a deal between Vasco and Newcastle is on hold for now.

Vasco won’t discuss Andrey Santos exit until December amid Newcastle interest

According to Globo Esporte, talks between Newcastle and Vasco have not advanced. They state that the Brazilian club will not negotiate Santos’ departure until the end of the Serie B season.

Vasco are looking to win promotion to the top flight, and therefore do not believe it is the right time to talk about selling one of their star players.

The Serie B season ends on November 5th, which hopefully means that talks will be reignited then heading into the January transfer window.

That suits Newcastle, as they would be unable to complete a deal until the turn of the year anyway. But the fact that contact has already been made should give Dan Ashworth and co an advantage.

It will be very exciting if they can bring Santos to St James’ Park. He’s an incredibly talented youngster, and someone who is a fan of Bruno Guimaraes. That could help convince the teenager to make the move to Tyneside.

Newcastle are doing their best to sign some of the world’s most exciting youngsters. It appears to have been a priority since Ashworth arrived as Sporting Director.

The club are in advanced talks to sign Australian wonderkid Garang Kuol, and hopefully talks recontinue with Andrey Santos when the Brazilian seasons comes to an end.
